A remarkable vintage large taxidermy bird’s foot brooch with metal fastening and brown dappled feathers.
This is a grouse foot kilt pin dating from around 1900.
The pin is a very unusual piece and demonstrates the older type of grouse claw where the appearance is more macabre. New pins have the claw looking much fluffier and cute.
The brooch measures approx. 10cm x 2cm. The fixing is made from gold/copper coloured metal which indicates it would have probably been gold plate over copper. The simple fastening appears to be made from brass. There is a little damage to two of the claws where two pieces of the nail have broken away.
A very unusual and stunning piece of macabre jewellery.
