Information

A stunning pair of earrings from the Victorian period. Although the pretty little beetles in this type of jewellery are known as scarabs, they are actually tortoise or leaf beetles. Their scientific name is polychalca punctatissima and they originate from South America.

The beetles in these stunning earrings are enclosed in a gold plated metal collet with an open back, so that all the incredible detail of the underside of the beetle is visible. The beautiful iridescent colours of the beetles are so vivid, in fact, that you could be mistaken in thinking that the beetles have been metalised or have been man-made, but this is their natural colouring.

These incredible drop earrings are a clip on design. They measure approx. 4cm long and the length of the beetle is approx. 1.5cm. The earrings are in excellent condition, having much of the gold plating worn away from the metal. The beetles themselves are in excellent condition.

These unusual earrings will be sent boxed and gift wrapped.

A rare and beautiful pair of organic earrings.
