‘The Enchanted Vortex’ is a charming late 21st century butterfly wing display plate.
This charming dish features, in its centre, the wing of the blue morpho butterfly from South America. It dates from around the 1970’s and has a silver metal setting.
The silver casing is approx. 9cm in diameter and has a hanging loop on the back for displaying on a wall. The casing is in good condition with slight wear to the edges and the butterfly wings inside are in excellent condition.
This piece has been called ‘The Enchanted Vortex’. If you hold the plate or dish in front of you, the wings have been placed in such a way that makes it appear to be almost turning on its own.
The morpho butterfly wings were specifically chosen last century because of their beauty and the way they catch the light. It is very difficult to catch the iridescence of the wings in the photographs. The way the tiny scales catch and reflect the light is remarkable. Incidentally, the wings have no colour at all – the scales catch the light, much like the sky, and refracts the light to appear the blue colour – remarkable!
A magical whirlpool of blue!
