A beautiful Art Deco butterfly wing sterling silver brooch.
This piece is named star petal. I thought this unusually shaped brooch looked like the shape of an aster flower petal. The aster is also known as the Star Flower.
This brooch features in its centre the wing of the blue morpho butterfly from South America. It dates from around the 1920’s and has a sterling silver setting with an ornate border.
The silver casing is a charming shape - slim with pointed ends which is rather unusual and measures 3.4cm long. The brooch itself is in good condition with a tiny imperfection on one of the edges but this is so small it is hardly if at all, noticeable. The clasp on the back has been slightly bent out of its original shape but works well and is quite secure.
The butterfly wing itself is in very good condition with only the slightest signs of age on one end and on the creases.
The morpho butterfly wings were specifically chosen last century because of their beauty and the way they catch the light. It is very difficult to catch the iridescence of the wings in the photographs. The way the tiny scales catch and reflect the light is remarkable.
A gorgeous antique brooch.
