Information

A fantastic miniature etching or engraving print of a shipwreck rescue by a castle.

This superb little miniature shows a dramatic scene. The picture shows the story of a rescue. There are three boats in the scene, one already safely in port, one out at sea and the other perilously close to disaster. The sailors on board are hanging on for their lives while they attempt to moor in the port. People on the beach look out and two have attempted to bring the boat in with a rope but only a small piece of the boat, perhaps a dingy, appears above the waves. Two sailors in their 18th century clothing look on, one with a telescope.

A huge derelict castle on a hill overlooks the whole scene with a sense of foreboding and in the far distance a white tower, perhaps for hope.

This stunning little picture sits in its original simple oak frame and has two mounts the outer one of a pale green colour. It is in excellent condition for its age. The paper backing is coming away slightly from the edges. The picture sits slightly ‘wonky’ in the frame and the glass has a tiny flaw showing the age of the glass. It measures approx. 17cm x 12cm.

A superb little engraving with loads of detail.
