A beautiful Art Deco butterfly wing sterling silver square shaped pendant.
This pendant is named ‘Sapphire Pool’ as it appears as a pool of water where the edges have turned to an emerald green much like the variations in water.
This pendant features the wing of the blue morpho butterfly from South America. It dates from around the 1920’s and has a sterling silver setting with an ornate border.
The setting is a square shape with the loop on a corner. It measures just over 1.5cm square. The sterling silver setting is in good condition with wear commensurate with its age. The back of the necklace has a few dents and scratches and is marked Sterling Silver. There is no maker’s mark.
The butterfly wing within the pendant has some discolouring around the edges which has changed to a greeny-brown depending on the angle, as the butterfly wing is very luminous and changes with the light. The centre is a dazzling sapphire blue colour under artificial light.
A beautiful pendant which is around 100 years old.
