A rare edition of a beautiful antique book of fairy tales from 1911 published by Selfridges of London.
Official Condition: FAIR
This rare edition of Grimm’s Fairy tales was translated by Mrs Edgar Lucas with illustrations by Arthur Rackham, who is recognised as one of the leading figures during the Golden Age of British book illustration. The book was issued by Selfridge & Co Ltd in 1911.
The book consists of 464 pages of more than 60 fairy tales with many black and white illustrations. There were originally two, coloured illustrations but the first appears to have been removed from inside the cover at some point. It has much foxing and some of the pages are torn to the centre as I’ve shown in the photos. There is no dust jacket. Some of the pages are missing corners.
The book measures approx. 20cm x 15cm x 4.5cm.
With all its problems, this book is still an enchanting edition and a very rare edition of the book. The deep red title on the blue front cover is the most exquisite lettering.
I am not an expert on antiques books, so if you have any further questions about the condition of the book, please ask.
