This unusual object is known in The Netherlands as a ‘mansbakje’, here in the UK we may call it an organ grinder’s collecting cup or a begging bowl.
This vintage cup dates from c.1950 and has been constructed from brass and copper. It appears to have had some use as it slightly worn and has some wear and a few small knocks.
The top and bottom are formed from brass, as is the handle, and the side is formed from a single piece of copper. These metals have been welded together.
It measures approx. 14.5cm long including the handle, 8cm wide and 2.5cm tall.
Perhaps a cheeky gift for someone who often asks for a handout!
