A small rectangular shaped sterling silver ring featuring in its centre the wings of a butterfly.
‘Mysterious Depths’ is a charming morpho butterfly wing ring dating from the 1920’s. Looking into this ring from above, the glass obscures the wing giving a feeling of ‘looking but not seeing’, rather like peering into deep water, perhaps from a boat. The sea moves in a way which distorts the scene under the surface. One moment you focus on something far below the surface, but as the water moves it morphs into something else.
This ring features in its centre the wing of the blue morpho butterfly from South America. It dates from around the 1920’s and has a sterling silver setting with an ornate border.
The butterfly wing itself inside the setting appears to be in excellent condition. The glass has been quite worn through time giving this opaque appearance to the butterfly wing. The maker’s name of Azura appears on the reverse of the ring. The ring is slightly out of shape due to its age, and it measures as a size J.
The setting is quite small and delicate measuring approx. 10mm x 7mm. The ring bears the word STERLING on the inside of the band.
Like peering into deep water.
