An unusual taxidermied foot or paw which has been made into a brooch.
This is the paw from a mink from which the fur was popular in the mid-nineteenth century due to its softness. A mink foot is quite different to a rabbit’s foot as tiny pads can easily be seen. A mink is a small carnivorous mammal, similar to a stoat or a weasel.
The pale caramel coloured fur forms the greater part of the brooch. A circular shape has been made from slightly paler fur which sits around the bright multi-coloured coloured paste stone on a gold-metal setting. A gold coloured metal pin with a safety clasp is attached via a piece of blue velvet on the back of the paw.
This vintage piece is in beautiful condition and measures approx. 7cm.
An eye-catching and stylish brooch from the 1950’s.
