Michael’s Curio Box

A vintage North African camel bone box in a treasure chest style. It has ornate brass decorations and a brass hinge and fastening and measures approx. 7.5cm x 5cm x 4cm.

  • A small rusty key. What treasures were kept in the box it once opened?
  • A small piece of an ammonite fossil from hundreds of million years ago.
  • A silver horse from a miniature roundabout.
  • A British threepenny piece from 1944. When this coin was minted, WWII was coming to an end.
  • A black dice (die) with skulls instead of dots. A strange curio.
  • An early 20th century small black marble with coloured swirls. The game of marbles has been played for thousands of years. It was the most popular playground game in school playgrounds for boys in the early to mid 20thcentury. The golden age of the marble was between the late 1920’s and the late 1930’s.

Michael’s Box is a tiny treasure chest containing an assortment of miniature curiosities from the past. It would be a perfect start to antiques collecting but who doesn’t love a small box containing treasures?

Although quite full, more miniature ‘finds’ could be added to make this a very personal keepsake box.

This would make an unusual gift for anyone, however, this would not be suitable for a small child due to the small size of the pieces contained in the box.
