A remarkable vintage large taxidermy bird’s foot brooch with metal fastening and brown dappled feathers.
These types of brooches were usually made in Scotland from grouse feet but although this appears to be of Scottish design, this seems to be from something else - possibly a crow or a bird of prey.
The brooch is a very unusual piece. The dappled feathers come right down to the claws, where in other similar pieces there are no feathers present. The brooch measures approx. 10cm x 2cm. The fixing is made from yellow/copper coloured metal. The simple fastening appears to be made from brass. There is a little damage to two of the claws where two pieces of the nail have broken away.
A very unusual and stunning piece of macabre jewellery.
