Hare’s Foot Brooch or Pin
A very curious piece, this is a taxidermied hare’s foot brooch or pin.
This unusual brooch appears to be a hunting trophy from a hunt in 1906. The setting is silver and the initials AD appear along with the date at the end of the setting.
Another possibility of this piece is that, according to British folk lore, hare’s feet are supposed to protect you from cramp so this may have been something other than a hunting trophy.
The piece is in excellent condition and the silver has not been cleaned so as not to damage the fur. The pin at the back is a simple c clasp and runs almost the entire length of the foot.
A very unusual and interesting item of taxidermy.
