A marvellous piece of police or prison history, from early last century, a pair of handcuffs, manacles or shackles.
These handcuffs have the original key and are in fully working order. They have a great antique patina with the silver metal having rusted particularly around the chain area. They date to the early 19th century or before and would have been used by the police or in a prison.
The handcuffs are marked with the number 25 and I believe they could be Hiatt but there is no maker’s mark. The key, which works beautifully and has recently been oiled, is marked with the number 13.
An excellent item for a collector, an unusual display piece or great for a curiosity cabinet. They would also be an excellent prop for the theatre or television.
