This is Dr. Eguider’s Vaginal Irrigator, an early gynaecological medical device.
This remarkable French medical device is made from brass and silver metal and dates from around 1855. I understand that this was some sort of pump, where the water would be poured into the top and handle at the top would then be turned to make the pressure. A rubber pipe would be attached at the bottom and the tap would be turned to allow the water to jet out.
This fabulous device has such great patina, some original yellow paint remains in a few areas – the plaque on the front and also around the bottom tap.
All the writing is in French. The plaque on the front reads:
Irrigatur Systeme Du Docteur Eguiser
Perfectionnement Brevete S.G.B.C. Paris
On the inside of the lid at the top, instructions are given.
The douche (a French word meaning to wash or soak) machine is in very good uncleaned antique condition with no chips or cracks. It measures approx. 22.5cm tall and 8.5cm wide.
