Down Brothers Brass Enema Syringe
A great addition to a medical collection or curiosity cabinet. This is an enema syringe made by Down Brothers of London.
It is made from brass and has an ebonised wooden handle and dates from the late 19th or early 20th century. It is a great display item with a great patina and a wonderfully embossed maker’s emblem reading:
DOWN BROS Ltd
21 & 23 St Thomas’s Street
Opposite Guy’s Hospital
This piece was made for the War Office as it has the usual ‘broad arrow’ carved into the handle.
It is in excellent condition and measures 32cm when closed and 44cm when fully extended.
An interesting piece of medical history.
