An antique set of double six hand-made dominoes. Each domino having been hand crafted from bone and wood. The two elements have been joined using a tiny brass pin, in the centre for easy shuffling whilst playing.
Having been hand-made, each domino is unique, and crafted from bone, probably bovine, wood and brass. The dots appear in non-symmetrical places as they have been manually drilled then painted. There are marks, dents and anomalies consistent with hand-crafted bone and their age. One domino has a corner chip.
The full set of 28 dominoes is complete in its own, I believe original, slide top box.The game of dominoes originated in China in the 12th century, but the game as we know it now was first seen in Italy in the 18th century. It was one of the most played traditional ‘pub games’ in Britain in the 19th and 20th centuries.
