This rare and unusual plate originates, I believe, in South America from around the late 20th century. This stunning piece is made from the wings of the morpho butterfly. The six full sized wings at the front and others in the background appear like a flower showing the natural spots. The beautiful iridescent wings catch and reflect the light and change colour depending on the amount and angle of light shining upon it.
This gorgeous piece measures 9cm round, the butterfly wings are encased in a white metal dish with a hanger on the back for displaying on a wall. This is a vintage item so there are scratches and marks on the metal casing commensurate with age.
