Brass Witch Tiller Pin
A brass tiller pin for a narrow boat or a barge in the shape of a witch.
A tiller is a device used for steering. On a narrow boat or barge, there is a part called a swan’s neck (because of its shape) and this can be difficult to move because of the effects of water resistance. Therefore, a tiller bar is used to give more leverage. The tiller bar slides on to the swan’s neck and is kept in place by the tiller pin. Although tiller pins can be plain, they can also be decorative and unusual, such as this one.
This tiller pin is in the shape of a witch. It is solid brass, very heavy and is connected to a stainless steel rod with a hole in the bottom end. It measures approx. 24 cm in all, the witch being 11.5cm.
This piece could also lend itself to many more uses and is very robust.
