Information

A clear glass Victorian apothecary measure dating from the late 20th century. This measure would have been used in chemists and apothecary shops to dispense medicine.

The measuring beaker or jug holds 2 fluid ounces. It is conical in shape opening up at the top where there is a pouring spout. The beaker is measured out in two ways, to the left there are the markings for fluid ounces and to the right the markings are measured for fluid drachms. A drachm was the equivalent to 60 grains or one eighth of an ounce.

The measuring beaker stands at 14cm tall and is in excellent condition. The measurements have been beautifully etched by hand and are very clear. There is an unusual scratch which appears to have been made when the etching was carried out. There is a large E very plainly etched on the back which is perhaps the maker's mark.

A lovely addition to a medical collection or to display in a curiosity cabinet or bathroom.
