A beautiful cobalt blue coloured porcelain trinket, patch or snuff box dating from the Victorian period. I believe this box to be Royal Vienna although there are no maker’s marks visible. It has a beautiful classical romantic picture of lovers with a maiden and a cherub on the top of the box.
A similar picture is revealed on the underside of the lid together with the unusual gold painted interior. The exterior is cobalt blue in colour with four white oval panels round the edges. I has hand painted gold decorations, and each picture, including the four oval sections on the side, are painted with an embossed dotted ‘frame’.
The condition of the porcelain box is consistent with its age. Some of the gold decorative paint has worn away on the top and bottom. The box is finished off with a gorgeous ormolu metal-work edging and clasp.
This stunning little trinket box measures approx. 8 x 6.5 x 5cm. It is in excellent condition with no chips, dents or scratches and just four marks on the bottom corners where the coating has become less shiny where the box sits on a surface.
Lovely antique trinket box with beautiful classical scenes.
