A pair of beautiful Italian chamber sticks or candle sticks in the form of peacocks.
These stunning vintage chamber sticks, in the art nouveau style, and formed from cast brass, feature the most beautiful birds. I believe they are peacocks, although they could be griffins or some other type of real or mythical bird.
Each piece rests on a single stand with three clawed feet. The body of the bird is highly ornate with art nouveau styled swirls and features. The candle holder is unusually finished with a leaf design.
Although the birds appear identical at first appearance, one of the birds has glass eyes whereas the other’s is plain brass.
The tail of the bird acts as the handle for the chamber stick which shape was originally intended as a safer means of travelling through the house to bed.
The void for the candle measures 2cm and tapers at the end. These stunning and heavy candle sticks weigh approx. 300g each. They measure approx. 20cm in length and stand approx. 9cm tall.
They have a lovely vintage patina and have not been polished. There are signs of past residue and slight tarnishing, but we will leave polishing to your discretion deciding whether you prefer an aged look or a highly polished shine.
A stunning pair of candle holders.
